Specialist filler placement beneath the eyes to restore volume, reduce shadows and hollowness — and create a genuinely more rested, refreshed appearance.
The tear trough is the groove that runs from the inner corner of the eye towards the cheek. As we age — or in some patients from an early age — this groove deepens, creating a shadow that makes us look persistently tired or older than we are. Specialist filler placement in this area can smooth the transition, reduce shadowing and create an immediate, refreshed appearance.
Tear trough filler is one of the most technically demanding injectable treatments available. The under-eye area has complex vascular anatomy and the skin is extremely thin — making the choice of clinician critically important. At DermaMedica, all tear trough treatments are performed by Dr Ahmed, whose anatomical expertise ensures safe and beautiful outcomes.
The best candidates are patients with a clear hollow or groove contributing to shadows, rather than significant skin laxity or dark pigmentation — your clinician will assess your suitability carefully at consultation.
Dr Ahmed assesses the tear trough carefully — evaluating the depth of the hollow, the quality of the skin, the contribution of cheek descent and the appropriateness of filler for your specific anatomy.
A blunt-tipped cannula (rather than a sharp needle) is used for tear trough filler — reducing the risk of bruising and allowing more controlled placement of filler in this sensitive area.
Volume is restored to the under-eye hollow, softening shadows and creating a smoother, more rested transition between the lower eyelid and the cheek.
The best candidates are patients with a clear structural hollow contributing to shadows. Patients with very thin skin, significant puffiness (eye bags), or predominantly pigmented dark circles may not be ideal candidates. A detailed consultation is essential.
Topical anaesthetic ensures comfort. The cannula technique is generally less uncomfortable than needle injection in this area.
The under-eye area has thin skin, complex vascular anatomy and very little tolerance for overfilling. Too much filler, the wrong product, or incorrect placement can lead to visible lumps or the Tyndall effect (bluish discoloration). Selecting an experienced, medically qualified clinician is essential.
Yes — polynucleotides are an excellent alternative or complement for patients whose under-eye concerns are related to skin quality rather than structural hollowing. Many patients benefit from a combination approach.
Medical note: All treatments at DermaMedica are administered by, or under the supervision of, GMC-registered doctors. A face-to-face medical consultation is required before treatment. Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Full safety information is provided at consultation.
Every patient is different. If this treatment isn't the right fit, one of these alternatives may be exactly what you need.
Polynucleotides improve skin quality and cellular health in the under-eye area — ideal when the concern is skin quality rather than structural hollowing.
Restoring cheek volume can significantly improve the tear trough — the two treatments are often performed together.
