Mole, skin tag and lesion removal at DermaMedica is a doctor-led minor surgical service — performed with clinical rigour and thoroughness. Before any removal is performed, a clinician assesses every lesion carefully to determine its nature and ensure its suitability for removal in our setting.

Where there is any clinical concern about a lesion, we will refer appropriately for dermatological assessment or biopsy before proceeding. We do not remove lesions that raise clinical concern without proper investigation — your safety is always prioritised over convenience.

Procedures are performed under local anaesthetic by our GMC-registered doctors, with minimal recovery time and excellent cosmetic outcomes for most benign lesions.

Clinical Assessment

Every lesion is assessed by a doctor before removal is agreed. Dermoscopy may be used to examine pigmented lesions. Lesions raising any clinical concern are referred for further assessment.

Local Anaesthetic

The treatment area is numbed with local anaesthetic before the procedure begins — ensuring a completely comfortable experience throughout.

Removal Procedure

The lesion is removed using the most appropriate technique — shave excision, elliptical excision or cautery depending on the lesion type. The wound is closed and dressed appropriately.

Assessment

Mandatory clinical assessment of every lesion before any procedure is booked. Some lesions may require referral.

Procedure

Local anaesthetic. The procedure is comfortable. 30–60 minutes depending on lesion size and number.

After

Small dressing applied. Wound care instructions provided. Most patients return to normal activities the same day.

Healing

Wound healing takes 1–2 weeks typically. Some post-operative appointments may be required.

Histology

Where clinically indicated, removed lesions may be sent for histological analysis.

No — every lesion is clinically assessed before removal is agreed. Where there is any concern about a lesion, we will refer appropriately before proceeding.

Is it painful?

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and is comfortable throughout. You may feel pressure but not pain.

Will there be a scar?

All surgical removal leaves some degree of mark. Our clinicians aim for the best possible cosmetic outcome. The type of removal affects scarring — your clinician will advise.

Can you send moles for analysis?

Yes — where clinically indicated, removed lesions can be sent for histological analysis.

How many can be removed in one session?

Multiple lesions can be removed in a single session depending on their size, location and the complexity involved.
