Medical microneedling (using the Dermapen device) creates thousands of controlled micro-injuries in the skin, triggering a natural wound-healing response. The result is a significant increase in collagen and elastin production — improving skin texture, tone and structure over a series of treatments.

Unlike chemical peels or laser resurfacing, microneedling works on all skin tones and carries a minimal risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, making it one of the most versatile skin resurfacing treatments available. Your Treatment Journey

Before

Avoid retinoids, AHAs/BHAs and other active skincare for 48 hours prior. Arrive with clean skin. Avoid sun exposure.

During

Topical anaesthetic ensures comfort. The Dermapen treatment takes 30–45 minutes. A regenerative serum is applied immediately after.

After

Skin will appear red and feel warm for 12–24 hours, similar to mild sunburn. Mild peeling possible over days 2–4. Avoid makeup for 24 hours.

Results

Initial improvement in skin glow and texture within 1–2 weeks. Collagen remodelling continues for 3–6 months after each session.

Longevity

A series of 3 sessions is recommended for skin quality; 4–6 sessions for acne scarring. Results are long-lasting with collagen benefits continuing for 12+ months.

How many sessions do I need for acne scarring?

This depends on the severity of scarring. Mild scarring may respond well in 3 sessions; moderate to severe scarring typically requires 4–6 sessions. Your clinician will assess and advise at consultation.

Can microneedling be done on dark skin tones?

Yes — microneedling is one of the few resurfacing treatments safe for all skin tones, including darker skin types (Fitzpatrick IV–VI), because it does not use heat or light energy that can trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

What is the downtime?

24 hours of redness similar to mild sunburn. Mild peeling on days 2–4. Most patients are comfortable being seen in public within 24–48 hours.

What is the difference between medical microneedling and at-home dermarollers?
