Anti-wrinkle injections — commonly referred to by brand names such as Botox — are a prescription-only medical treatment administered by our GMC-registered doctors. They work by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that cause specific facial muscles to contract, allowing the overlying skin to smooth and relax.

At DermaMedica, our philosophy is always about enhancement, not alteration. We use precise anatomical assessment before every treatment to ensure results look natural, refreshed and completely in keeping with your own features — never frozen or overdone.

Beyond cosmetic use, anti-wrinkle injections have a long history in medical practice. We also offer specialist applications for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), where the same technique is applied to the underarms, hands or feet with excellent results.

Before any injection is placed, your clinician maps your facial anatomy and muscle activity. This ensures treatment is tailored to your unique facial structure, not applied from a template.

Targeted Injection

Tiny amounts of neuromodulator are injected using ultra-fine needles into specific muscles. The procedure is quick — most treatments are complete in under 20 minutes.

Progressive Relaxation

Over 3–7 days the targeted muscles gradually relax, and the overlying skin smooths. Full results are visible at the two-week review, where fine adjustments can be made if needed.

Your Treatment Journey

Before

No preparation required. Arrive makeup-free if treating the face. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior.

During

Ultra-fine needles are used — most patients describe a mild pinch. A consultation ice pack is applied to maximise comfort.

After

Avoid exercise, alcohol, heat and lying flat for 4 hours. Do not rub the treated area. Mild redness resolves within hours.

Results

Onset in 3–7 days. Full effect at 2 weeks — a complimentary review is included at this stage.

Longevity

Typically 3–4 months. Regular treatment can extend duration as muscles gradually soften.

Is anti-wrinkle treatment safe?

Anti-wrinkle injections have been used safely in medical practice for over 30 years and have one of the best safety profiles of any aesthetic treatment. At DermaMedica, all treatments are prescription-only and administered by GMC-registered doctors.

Will I look "frozen"?

No — if administered correctly by an experienced clinician. Our approach preserves natural movement while smoothing lines. We use conservative doses and always review results at two weeks, adjusting if needed.

What is the difference between anti-wrinkle injections and fillers?

Anti-wrinkle injections relax muscles to smooth dynamic lines (lines that form from movement). Dermal fillers add volume and structure. They treat different concerns and are often used in combination for a comprehensive result.

How long do results last?

Typically 3–4 months for most patients. With regular treatment over time, muscles gradually weaken and longevity can increase. Some patients extend to 5–6 months between sessions.

Does it hurt?

Discomfort is minimal. We use very fine needles and the injections are superficial. Most patients describe a brief sting at most. No anaesthetic is needed.

Can I have anti-wrinkle injections if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

No. This treatment is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Please discuss your situation with our clinical team.

How soon can I return to normal activities?

Immediately in most cases. We advise avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol and heat for 4 hours post-treatment.

What are the side effects?

Common: mild redness or swelling at injection points, resolving within hours. Rare: temporary bruising or headache. Very rare: asymmetry or unwanted muscle relaxation, which typically resolves within a few weeks.
